  • January Book Haul

Welcome to my first ever ‘Book Haul’! I am an avid library patron, so I won’t ever have a tall stack of newly purchased books. I do however, dabble every once in a while! I believe you can be a reader, a blogger, and a reviewer without needing to own very many books, or even a proper bookshelf. (Any surface with a book on it is automatically a ‘bookshelf’, right?!) 😉   Physical Haul ~ ☀️ indicates an ARC ~     ☀️ The Princess and the Fangirl By Ashley Poston   Match Me If You Can By Tiana Smith     eBook Haul ~ ☀️ indicates an ARC ~    A…

  • WWW Wednesday, 23-Jan-19

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB @ A Daily Rhythm and revived by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.     The Three Ws are: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?     Currently Reading   Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Harry Potter, Book 1 By J.K. Rowling I’m still catching up on the Potterhead Readalong! “Harry — yer a wizard.” Ahhhh! All the feels are back!! ⚡️     A Curious Beginning Veronica Speedwell, Book 1 By Deanna Raybourn I’m getting back to this after putting it down during my mini…

  • Mini Reviews: The Flamel Secrets

The Magician The Secrets of the Immortal of Nicholas Flamel, Book 2 By Michael Scott A fantastic sequel to The Alchemyst! It moved quicker and contained more “action” scenes. Since most of the characters were introduced in the previous book, there was more time for some character development. I’m looking forward to The Sorceress, next in the series, to develop Perenelle’s character… I think she could be my favorite! I’m still adjusting to a clash of myths/legends because I typically like stories that keep them categorically separate, but I am finding it an interesting read nonetheless. Audiobook Performance: ★★★★ The Sorceress The Secrets of the Immortal of Nicholas Flamel, Book…

  • Mini Reviews: Wayward Children

Every Heart a Doorway Wayward Children, Book 1 By Seanan McGuire You’re nobody’s doorway but your own, and the only one who gets to tell you how your story ends is you. I really liked the characters, each with their own quirks and flaws. I loved the writing. The premise was full of promise, but the actual plot left me… unsatisfied? The story started with fantasy elements—both colorful as well as dark—then a little over half way through it declared, “No, that was a false pretense, silly. Deep down, I’m more of a grotesque horror. Psych!” Let’s step back for a moment to how much I love the writing and…

  • Mini Reviews: Kids Save the Day

Wizard for Hire Wizard for Hire, Book 1 By Obert Skye A wizard can go weeks without water, but only days without books. Wizard for Hire was a delight to read! I was really impressed and entertained by this story full of mystery, heart, and humor. It can be read as a standalone book, but I’m happy that there is a series to look forward to—I want more Ozzy, Clark (the independently thinking and talking metal raven), and the one and only Rin (wizard of Quarfelt)! You look at me and see a wizard. I look at everything and see magic. The Son of Neptune The Heroes of Olympus, Book…

  • Mini Reviews: Back to Hogwarts!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them By Newt Scamander I needed a little magic in my day… and this did the trick! I absolutely loved Eddie Redmayne’s narration as Newt Scamander in the updated version of Fantastic Beasts!! The sound effects were spot on, as well. The accompanying book was wonderful, and I really enjoyed the new ink illustrations by Tomic. There was a lot of subtle humor throughout that kept me entertained! Nifflers are still my favorite of course!! 😉 Audiobook Performance: ★★★★★ The Hogwarts Collection By J.K. Rowling I loved this Pottermore collection! It re-wet my appetite for the magic of the Wizarding World all over again…
